Major Medical Insurance is what most people think of when they thing Health Insurance. Many of these plans are now written through ACA approved plans (aka Obamacare) but many others are also non-ACA and therefore available year-round. Non-ACA plans will not always cover pre-existing conditions; but if it's important to cover pre-existing conditions you might be eligible for an ACA approved plan all year because of a 'change in life circumstance' like divorce, lay-off, retirement, Cobra expiration or death of a spouse.
